Soil Tectonics is a sole proprietorship that aids engineering geologists in preparing and interpreting trench logs for evaluating seismic hazards.
Owned and operated by Dr. Glenn Borchardt, Soil Tectonics, has been in business since 1991. It is an outgrowth of early work performed by Dr. Borchardt on evaluating seismic hazards to the proposed Auburn Dam and to the proposed LNG Plant at Point Conception for the State of California.
Dr. Borchardt has studied soils since 1962, when he became a laboratory
assistant for Prof. M.L. Jackson in soil mineralogy at the University of Wisconsin. He completed his Ph.D. degree under Prof. M.E. Harward at Oregon State University.
Soil Tectonics uses the passage of time, as evidenced in soil development features, to assess the stability of building sites.
